Find out the most convenient ways to reach the Algarve International Circuit, what to keep in mind on your journey, and a few practical tips to help make your race weekend smooth, enjoyable, and free of unnecessary stress.
The circuit is located in the hills above Portimão, just a short drive from the Algarve coastline and major resorts such as Lagos and Alvor. Its official address is:
Sítio do Escampadinho, Mexilhoeira Grande, 8500-148 Portimão, Portugal
The venue is easily accessible by car, public transport, or taxi from nearby towns. The A22 motorway (Via do Infante) connects directly to the circuit area via the Mexilhoeira Grande exit, with clear signage guiding visitors toward the main parking zones. Allow extra time for your journey, especially on race days, as traffic congestion can occur on approach roads.
For international visitors, the nearest airport is Faro (FAO), located about 85 km away – roughly an hour’s drive. Car hire services are widely available at the airport, offering a convenient option for those planning to explore the Algarve region. Alternatively, train and bus connections from Faro, Lagos, and Portimão run to nearby towns, with shuttle or taxi services completing the final leg to the circuit.
You can find a summary of the main Portuguese road and driving regulations here. It’s a good idea to review them before your trip to ensure a safe and smooth journey to the circuit.
A free shuttle service between Portimão and the Algarve International Circuit has been available during MotoGP events and is expected to operate for Formula 1 as well. Details for the F1 weekend are yet to be confirmed.
If hotels near the circuit are fully booked, consider staying in Portimão or nearby towns such as Lagos, Alvor, or Silves, all of which offer a wide range of accommodation options. You can find more information and booking links here.
