By plane

Travelling by air is the quickest and most convenient way to reach the Algarve International Circuit, particularly for international visitors. Below are the main travel options:

Faro Airport (FAO)

  • Location: Faro Airport is the closest major airport to the Algarve Circuit, located about 85 km east of the venue.
  • Flights: The airport has frequent connections to many European cities, served by airlines such as British Airways, Lufthansa, Ryanair, and EasyJet. During the summer season, additional charter flights are often available.

Ground transportation

  • Car rental: Car hire companies, including Avis, Hertz, and Europcar, operate directly at the airport. Renting a car gives you the flexibility to explore the Algarve region. The drive to the circuit takes roughly 1 hour via the A22 motorway.
  • Airport shuttle: Several operators, including Shuttle Direct and Yellowfish Transfers, offer shared or private transfers from Faro Airport to destinations such as Portimão and the circuit.
  • Taxi: Taxis are available outside the terminal. A one-way trip to the Algarve Circuit takes about an hour and usually costs between €90 and €120.
  • Public transport: You can take a bus from Faro Airport to the city centre and continue by train or bus to Portimão. From there, local buses or taxis can take you to the circuit. This is the most economical option, though it takes more time.

Lisbon Airport (LIS)

  • Location: Lisbon Airport is around 290 km north of the Algarve Circuit.
  • Flights: As Portugal’s main international hub, Lisbon Airport offers global connections to major cities including New York, London, Paris, and Frankfurt. Airlines such as TAP Air Portugal, British Airways, and Emirates operate regular flights.

Ground transportation:

  • Car rental: Companies like Sixt, Budget, and Enterprise are available at Lisbon Airport. Driving south to the Algarve takes about 2.5 to 3 hours via the A2 and A22 motorways.
  • Train: From the airport, take the metro or a taxi to Oriente or Entrecampos stations. CP (Comboios de Portugal) trains, including Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services, run regularly to Portimão. The train journey takes about 3.5 hours. From Portimão, take a taxi or local bus to the circuit.
  • Bus: Rede Expressos and Eva Transportes run regular buses from Lisbon Sete Rios station to Portimão. The journey takes around 3.5 to 4 hours, followed by a short taxi or bus ride to the circuit.

Ridesharing

Uber operates in both Faro and Lisbon, offering a range of services from budget to premium. You can easily book a ride using the Uber app, track your journey in real time, and share trip details for safety. Premium options provide extra comfort with professional drivers and more spacious vehicles.
